The Lesson
“It has taken me two years to recognise the truth of what you told me when I was in treatment. I have gradually been able to become totally abstinent and my life now is totally wonderful. I have a good relationship with my family and I feel great. I have just done a two thousand five hundred mile bicycle ride for charity.”
He was doing OK until that last sentence. Now I am really worried about him. Addicts in normal recovery take taxis to cross the road.

It was a joke implying that we don’t want to become too meticulous and virtuous.
