Democracy.
More people voted in the General Election in Iraq last week-end than voted in the UK General Election in 2005.
I consider this to be justification for the intervention (although not, of course, for the torture). Under threat of death, the Iraqis went to the polls. Clearly they very much value what they have been given. We don’t appear to value our democracy as much. Our Labour Government has progressively eroded personal freedoms throughout all its term of office. Yet still they cling to power and may even do so yet again.
