Mothering Sunday.
I used to send my mother a card on Mothering Sunday but I didn’t send my father one on Father’s Day: I saw Father’s Day simply as a commercial enterprise by the card making companies.
Today I myself received a card for Mother’s Day (my wife had a separate one addressed to her). Now I am totally confused. Still, perhaps no more so than our former housekeeper to whom we sent a Mother’s Day card on behalf of our dog whom she now looks after.
